…-7 year old me. Growing up I had all of these adventures planned for myself; I was going to be an international spy, a traveling journalist…my latest adventure up until last year- I was going to teach English in 3rd world countries. (I also said I wasn’t going to learn the languages beforehand, I was just gonna learn it when I got there.)
Fast forward to today and wow has God been working in my life. He planted those seeds in me, for travel, for helping people, and for foreign language early on; I was oblivious literally until today. If you read my intro post, you’ll know I’m currently in school majoring in Spanish…hm seems like some preparation from God right there. I’m also pre-occupational therapy. Going into college I thought I’d come out a teacher and move to a third world place to teach. Since my desire has changed to healthcare, I’ve been struggling to understand how as an occupational therapist I could still be useful in a 3rd world country. An occupational therapist teaches people how to use their bodies again after trauma- a serious back injury, an amputee, or a post-brain surgery patient.
Here I am, on a mission trip in the places he has given me a heart for, and God showed up, he showed up to show me it’s possible. Ministry today was at an orphanage, 1 child had cerebral palsy, I didn’t think anything of it. We helped with homework and decorated cookies, it was a great day! But it got better, as we were walking out, a man was walking in. The women in charge said “Oh this is Antonios’ sponsor (the boy with cerebral palsy), and he was also Antonios’ therapists years ago… he’s the one who taught Antonio to walk.” Ohmygoodness, 7 yr old me and 20 yr old me collide. I don’t have to build an orphanage, but I can work in one! As an occupational therapist! There are definitely more Antonios out there, and with Gods guidance maybe one day I’ll be teaching them to walk too. God is real, he is faithful and he is good.
