Not Another Stereotypical Hairy Missionary

"When I know a missionary group is coming to help out our church, I know to expect long dreaded beards from the guys and long flowy skirts from the girls".                             –Emily (19)   Since being in Central America our team has gotten quiet a few compliments on how we carry ourselves. And although some grow their peachfuzz out a little longer than necessary and some of us want to throw all of our skirts in a big burning fire, we care about our apperance. We are a...

"Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.  I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’"  Matthew 25: 34-36 With a church in San Jose called New Life New Glory we had the opportunity to do homeless ministry after service on Saturday Night....

Missionary yet?

I think most people who go on a missions trip ask themselves at some point, "Am I considered a missionary yet?" What does it take to get the title "missionary"? For a log time I thought maybe it was based on experiences. When I would go through some funny cultural moment I would wonder if I had reached the missionary label yet. Wrapping it up in a Sunset

My time in Costa Rica thus far has been good. Different than El Salvador. Not in a better or worse way. Simply different.  But this month (I think of each country as a month because of my time on the World Race) has been tough on me. Between Insanity, cooking, cleaning, school, cutting down Banana trees, Church, World Bible College, seeing the sites- it’s been a busy couple of weeks. And for the most part the days have been great. But as with life, there have been those rough days. Days where I’m tired, needing alone time, sore, not feeling strong with God- just a variety...

I’m not lucky.

Luck. I am not completely sure if I believe in luck.  Am I lucky to be in Costa Rica? Is it luck that I was born into a wonderful loving home? And the question that has really been on my mind lately… Could it be luck that I have the privilege to live, and serve alongside seven incredible women? Nope. I know for a fact that God planned this. Spending this much time with girls has done a lot to open my eyes. I have learned a lot… Maybe more than I wanted to. I will share what I have learned to give a little insight to my fellow men on the opposite gender.    ...

A Servant’s Heart

That's what I have been praying for everyday since I've set foot in Costa Rica.  Here I am on a beautiful mountain in the perfect climate, living at a school with instructions to be an English teachers! Sounds ideal right?! But God has a funny way of breaking down expectations. When I have a plan about how I think things should go and it's MY plan (not God's) you better believe He is quick to correct me. My time in Costa Rica is turning out to be quite different than what my plans were (and I have to admit a little disappointing at first) but I am learning underneath a...
