I LOOKED FOR 15 HOURS!

Ok I'll be honest, It's been longer than this 15 hour bus ride to Panama. I've been searching for the past month. I've had my eyes peeled open being on the lookout for the slow, hairy, 3-toed animal that calls Costa Rica it's home; the sloth. Rumor has it that they like to hangout high in the trees but the only place I've seen them is on our 10.000 colone bill ($20). Although its not my cup of tea to stay sitting for more than 5 minutes, I have a blast on our long travel days to our different countries. Apart from looking for sloths, the window seat gives me the...

Lesson Learned: Stress is Over-rated

So travel days worry me. When there are 7/8 other people’s lives in my hands and we are going to a new country, I tend to get a little stressed out. As much as I try not to worry, it still happens. Travel day from San Jose, Costa Rica to Panama City, Panama began as any other. Up early to pack and be out the door by 9am. Here we are 9 gringos with all the stuff we own for four months on our backs. As we are walking to the bus stop, I can’t seem to remember which block. ‘Maybe this one? I don’t know, let’s walk one more.’ Yep there it is. A bus pulls up...

It’s not a nap… It’s a N.O.P.!

4 weeks ago I brought an idea before the team. I was unsure of how the team would take it or if they would even agree to do it. A Night Of Prayer, also known as N.O.P. time. I should have known this idea would be well received!  It was decided! Each of us would take on one hour of the night to pray. By doing this we would cover the whole night with prayer. From 10 at night till 7 in the morning.  Little did we know what we were getting into! An hour seems like a long time right? WRONG! For most of us an hour seemed more like 20 minutes. We had a lot more to say to God than we...

The God of 2nd Chances

Our God is a God of 2nd chances. And 3rd. And 4th. And 5th. And well numerous chances. Just read through the Old Testament. Time after time God gives warnings. God teaches lessons. And God always leaves a remnant. He does this because of His immense love for us. And it’s not really anything we did, can do, or will do. But simply because of who He is and what we mean to Him. As our time in Costa Rica came to a close and debrief approached, questions arose about debrief and if it was really necessary. I was personally looking forward to debrief for a bed, warm showers and relaxation...

Rain

On Thursday, we did an ATL, an Ask the Lord exercise, where after a session of prayer, we write down any thoughts or draw any pictures that God puts on our hearts, things that he wants us to look for, and then with those things in mind, we step out in faith letting God lead us to the people we should meet. We prayed, asking for God to reveal what He wanted us to look for during our two hours out. After while, the fruit of our prayer session lay before us: a fire hydrant, an umbrella, a woman with a long dark ponytail holding an umbrella and wearing high heels, a car crash with people...

Discovery

Learning how to adjust and adapt is pretty much a given while on the mission field. But that doesn´t mean it makes it any easier. Our first week here in Costa Rica was way more difficult than I ever expected. We were told we were going to be teaching and I was in charge of study hall. Easy right?? I basically would get to hang out with the students and pretend to do homework. However things never go as expected as I have come to discover. My first class was the 11th & 12th grade which consists of about ten students. About three minutes into the class seven of them leave and I am...
