One thing I have learned here, is sometimes you see the fruits of your labour, and sometimes you don't. Literally…
This realization came to me when Elaine (incredibly sweet woman of God!) said to me while I was watering the pineappes.
"Oh Laura, we sure are going to think of you and your diligent watering when we eat these pineapples!"
I asked the logical question, "How long does it take for a pineapples to grow?"
"Oh, 2 or 3 years." She responded.
My jaw hit the floor! I had no idea it took that long! I was thinking 2 or 3 months maximum!
So no matter how hard I work at building benches, and weeding flowers there are some changes that won't be visible when I leave. With the help of God I hope that it isn't just the pineapples that I make an impact on. I would like to leave Central America having affected just a many people as pineapples. And to anser the question that I am sure is one some of your minds…. we are currently growing 62 pineapples, with more to come.
Also, I now think that a pineapple is completely worth the $4 you might be paying for them!
