We are very privileged to have our very own chef, Brother Carlos. Not only does he feed us healthily, but the portions are tremendous (much needed with this heat). He was brought up through the Church of Christ in Loveland, Colorado, where his father is a preacher. His story is incredible…
Drugs and alcohol controlled his life in America. In total he has spent 7 years in prison, his last sentence lasting 2 years and resulting in deportation back to El Salvador. Whilst in prison he was able to find consolidation and refuge in Christ. God used him in ways he would never have imagined. He gained the respect of his inmates and would hold regular prayer calls, giving others the opportunity to seek the same light that would go on to transform him into a servant for the Lord.
Carlos admits that life in El Salvador was difficult at first and brought many challenges. The biggest of these being the isolation from his son, aged 11, and daughter, aged 8. To cope with this struggle he turned to alcohol and entered a vicious cycle which saw him battle alcoholism for 4 years. Last April Carlos gave his life to Christ. A burden was lifted and he has a new life in Christ Jesus. Praise the Lord! For our bother was lost and has returned home.
‘Jesus is our strength, Jesus is our treasure, and Jesus is our all in all.’ – Carlos
